MOST WANTED CAREER ACHIEVERS

  • The Asante Foundation ‘Get on Board’ Achievers Billboard Initiative places the faces of community-nominated, high-achieving young black men and women on billboards throughout New Orleans.

  • The mission of the Asante Foundation ‘Get on Board’ Achievers Billboard Initiative is to hold up successful young black men and women in order to celebrate their accomplishments, to promote social responsibility, and to reinforce positive attributes such as self-discipline and self-esteem.

  • This initiative is necessary to counteract the constant media bombardment that feeds the stereotype of African-American youth as lazy, criminal, or dangerous. This stereotype is damaging not only to the community’s view of itself, but for the fact it encourages discrimination by society at large, racial profiling by the police, and racially-imbalanced treatment by the justice system.

  • The Asante Foundation ‘Get on Board’ Achievers Billboard Initiative began in July 2013.

The goals of this initiative are:

  • To recognize and inspire high achievement in our youth

  • To spark a broader conversation about media images of African American youth and the effects of these images on society

  • To put up 1-3 new billboards every three months in order to African American youth and the effects of these images on society reinforce a positive message of African-American youth
